COMMEMORATIVE SOUVENIR SHEET

 

TO MARK THE RETURN OF HONG KONG TO CHINA 1 JULY 1997

 

On 1 July 1997 the crown colony of Hong Kong will become Hsiang Kang, a special administrative region of the People’s Republic of China. Hong Kong Post office will also leave the Commonwealth umbrella and cease to be a commonwealth Postal administration.

Paying tribute to the Hong Kong Postal administration, the St Helena Post Office will mark this historic event by issuing a special souvenir sheet. This souvenir sheet depicts a spectacular scene of the Hong Kong panorama at dusk. The stamp inset is a design from our current Birds definitive issue and features our national; bird, the Wirebird. The souvenir sheet was designed by Mr Derek Miller in the United Kingdom and printed in lithography by Walsall Security Printers Ltd.
