COMMEMORATIVE SOUVENIR SHEET
TO MARK THE RETURN OF HONG KONG TO CHINA 1 JULY 1997
On 1 July 1997 the crown colony of Hong Kong will become Hsiang Kang, a special administrative region of the People’s Republic of China. Hong Kong Post office will also leave the Commonwealth umbrella and cease to be a commonwealth Postal administration.
Paying tribute to the Hong Kong Postal administration, the St Helena Post Office will mark this historic event by issuing a special souvenir sheet. This souvenir sheet depicts a spectacular scene of the Hong Kong panorama at dusk. The stamp inset is a design from our current Birds definitive issue and features our national; bird, the Wirebird. Text in English and Chinese describes the purpose of the souvenir sheet.

The souvenir sheet was designed by Mr Derek Miller in the United Kingdom and printed in lithography by Walsall Security Printers Ltd.
