SPECIAL COMMEMORATIVE ISSUE
GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
On Thursday, 10 July 1997 the Post Office released a special commemorative stamp issue to mark the Golden Wedding of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.
This issue comprises three se-tenant pairs and a souvenir sheet. The stamps are produced in black and white depicting local scenes from the Royal visits of 1947 and 1957 respectively and are paired with a picture of the Royal Couple on their Wedding Day, 20 November 1947.
Se-tenant pairs one and two show the Royal Family at Longwood House and the Wharf in Jamestown. The third se-tenant pair shows HRH The Duke of Edinburgh inspecting ex-servicemen during his visit in 1957.
The souvenir sheet is produced in full colour and features a dignified stamp design of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh in a horse drawn carriage. On either side of the stamp shows a picture of HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh on their wedding day in oval cameo frames.
The first day cover design shows Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh on their respective horses at the Trooping the Colour ceremony.
