There are many other related web sites too: if you like, I will make up a list of those that I know of for you. I have a pretty large collection of photos of the island that I took when I lived there in 1967-69,but unfortunately have not yet got around to scanning them: however, the sites I have noted above will show you just what a beautiful place St. Helena is! My mother is quite sure all of the Caswells on the island are related. She is also pretty sure there is only one Ronald Caswell on the island. She was only sure of the fact that he has a daughter named Charlotte. She heard that he had more children but never knew how many or if they were boys or girls. This is really neat. You more than likely know my uncle and cousins. I have never met them! What is your mother's name? I live in the state of North Dakota. Where do you live? How old are you? I am 32. I have always felt such a void where my extended family is concerned. I have never gotten to even meet most of them. I have to say I am very excited about making contact with you! I have very high hopes that I too will be able to visit St. Helena some day. It is on my list of "must do's". Let me know what your mother has to say! Hope to hear from you soon! Nissa --- "Tessa M. Their daughter's name is Charlotte, she's the youngest! Your cousin David and I were friends. This is exciting! I don't believe we are related though. The Caswells in my family were through marriage..so my cousins are Caswells. My mum's name is Doreen Peters (her maiden name). We're the same age. I live in Portland, OR. I also have a sister who lives here. She's married and they have a little boy. I forwarded your message to my mum asking if she knew your's. It's a small island so they probably do know each other. I think your mum is right about all the Caswells being related. I look forward to talking more. She is also familiar with the house named "the briars". She shared with me that she knew a family by the last name of Hayes who lived next door to her Aunt Blanche Caswell. She could only remember the name of the youngest daughter which was Mary Hayes. She said the father of this family died while walking along the cliffs and falling over into the water and rocks below. My mother has told me stories about climbing Jacobs Ladder every day to go to school as a child. Very sad but maybe a part of your family history James. If I find out anything further I will let you know. House Buying is one of them. There are no estate agents and there is very little land which is released for sale. Often, surplus land is kept within the owning family for the next generation. The few houses put up for sale in a year are often sold by word of mouth. Any houses advertised in the St Helena Herald are usually aimed at overseas buyers and often at inflated prices. The only way to buy with confidence, if the opportunity should ever arise, is to visit the island, make enquiries and look around for yourself. vthompson -----Original Message----- From: list-bounces@sthelena.se [mailto:list-bounces@sthelena.se]On Behalf Of list-request@sthelena.se Sent: 18 November 2004 11:00 To: list@sthelena.se Subject: List Digest, Vol 5, Issue 13 Send List mailing list submissions to list@sthelena.se To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://lists.kulturservern.se/mailman/listinfo/list or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to list-request@sthelena.se You can reach the person managing the list at list-owner@sthelena.se When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of List digest..."
